The Thread Woven Through
Beginning with childhood, recall moments when you felt you had accomplished meaningful achievement, moments when you were proud of work to have actively participated in an experience. These may be events as simple as babysitting your younger sister, caring for the neighbors lawn, getting a good score on the ACT after many nights of studying, or building a relationship through the Adopt-a-Grandparent program.
After you've created a list, choose 3-5 from the list to look at in more detail. Reflect on the following questions:
Why are you proud of these accomplishments?
What drew you to become involved in these accomplishments?
Which of your talents, skills, aspirations, values, beliefs, relationships were a part of the experience?
How were you impacted by the experience? Did the experience influence later choices? How?
When your are done, look back over your answers. Do you notice any recurring themes or similarities among your answers? How might these common threads shed light on your vocation?
