Vocation: The Actual Me and the Supposed-to-be Me
The idea: This session uses What I Do Best Cards, a fun tool put out by Gallup (the folks responsible for StrengthsFinder) to explore the questions of Who am I? and Who am I told I am supposed to be? The session also introduces the concept of vocation using the popular Frederick Buechner quote suggesting vocation is, "the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet."
Time needed: 60+ minutes (depending on extent of reflection)
Resources needed: One deck of cards per pair/trio of students. 20 decks are available for check out by faculty/staff at the library reserve desk. An additional three decks are available for overnight check-out by students.
Resources below: Plan for the session; instructions for the cards can be found here.
Suitable for: 10-20+
A Note: This session is slightly more labor intensive due to the use of the What I Do Best Cards. However, if you've used the cards before or are interested in using them as an advising tool...the experience will be very worthwhile!
